So, I was on the fence about this series. The 3D animation has always been hit or miss with me. Be it tv shows or movies. I’m just not the biggest fan of it most the time. But after a while I had been wanting to watch some TMNT and it being something new to me, I figured there’d be no harm in trying this series, setting aside my personal preferences. So this collection is obviously where you start if you’re new to this series or just wanting to own this series as well, usually. It’s silly at times, it’s been riddled with movie references that I actually caught and enjoyed immensely. I haven’t watched the 2003 cartoon series before this (yet), but feels like for reasons unknown they made everyone the same age, or April and Casey are in school now or are kids. The ooze playing a huge factor in this series is an awesome touch and it’s cool to see familiar faces but in this format or with a rehashed origin story. Another interesting twist, April undergoes training as well. So, she’s not a complete damsel in distress. Some weird stuff though, you see a turtle pining after April. Kind of in a “this seems like too much” level of weird.I really enjoyed the fights in this series. Also enjoyed Jason Biggs voicing Leonardo. Which from here on changed to another voice actor. After this if you’re following along - “RETREAT!” should be the next collection you grab. I had to look up the order myself, it’d have made things so much easier if they numbered the disks by season like this collection but at the moment, that’s a big nope.I tried these out after the short lived Rise series ended on Nicktoons/Nickelodeon. Figured it’d be nice to try a TMNT show Nickelodeon gave a chance/more love to.
